Personal enmity

Murders are often attributed to ‘personal enmity’ in Pakistani newspapers, I suppose a relic of colonial reporting. Strange what lingers and what doesn’t.

It was a working day in which I did most of my work in the second half. Began with a session with my trainer, then a short work call, then faffing around. The GF and I have taken to two tea breaks in the afternoon, which feels quite indulgent but is also a good way to reset the day, so all the work I did was after the first tea break and continued after the second. The first is in the front garden, where garden is a very slight exaggeration as it’s a bunch of bricks set into dust, with some bougainvillea. In my dream garden I would remove the bricks and turn it into a swamp planted with papyrus, reeds and lotus, and stocked with fish, frogs and crocodiles. Still it’s a pleasant spot and gets many sparrows.

The late afternoon tea, or rather sunset tea, is up on the roof terrace which had a panoramic view of the desert hills and a very wide sky. In the mornings it has hot air balloons; in the evenings it has stars. This afternoon a very picturesque group of horses ambled across, looking like an establishing shot from a Western. Until a day or two ago it was very chilly at this time but was today very pleasant though I still took my shawl. The day had been a little cloudy and flecks of cloud remained through sunset, and were very vivid indeed.

Our dinner, apparently, is to be provided by our driver today, though matters were a bit unclear. So I shall go and investigate as, otherwise, I had better start cooking.
